Clayton Craddock

Drums / Percussion

Born in Hartford and raised in Manchester, Connecticut, Clayton Craddock grew up surrounded by Barry White, Parliament-Funkadelic, KISS, Prince, Rush, and Earth, Wind & Fire — absorbing everything from soul and funk to rock, hip-hop, jazz, and fusion. Drums were his calling. He attended Howard University, where he lived in the School of Fine Arts and became section leader of Thunder Machine, Howard's legendary drum section. After graduating he made his way to New York City in 1993, building his career across every genre until a 2000 offer to play Footloose in Las Vegas launched his career in musical theater.

Currently the drummer for Cats: The Jellicle Ball on Broadway at the Broadhurst Theatre, Clayton's Broadway credits include Memphis: The Musical, winner of the 2010 Tony Award for Best Musical, Ain't Too Proud: The Life and Times of The TemptationsLady Day at Emerson's Bar and Grill (with Audra McDonald), Altar Boyz, and tick, tick…BOOM! His out-of-town credits include The Last Goodbye at The Old Globe in San Diego and The Hippest Trip: The Soul Train Musical in San Francisco. He has subbed on productions including Motown, Evita,
CatsAvenue QThe Color PurpleRentSpongeBob SquarePants: The Musical, and Hadestown (Tour).

His television credits include The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy FallonGood Morning AmericaThe ViewThe Today Show, and the Tony Awards. Beyond the stage, he has performed alongside soul and R&B legends The Stylistics, The Delfonics, Ben E. King, and Deniece Williams, blues icon Hubert Sumlin, and rock and roll pioneer Chuck Berry, as well as Laura Benanti, Kristin Chenoweth, Audra McDonald, Norm Lewis, Christian Borle, Kerry Butler, and Mario Cantone.

He is the author of Broadway Bound and Beyond: A Musician's Guide to Building a Theater Career — a comprehensive, experience-driven guide covering every stage of a theater career, from developing the Broadway mindset and building relationships to managing your finances, navigating the pit, mastering the art of subbing, landing your own show, and knowing what to do when the curtain comes down for the last time.

He is also the founder of Broadway Drumming 101, an educational platform, podcast, and mentorship resource built to demystify what it actually takes to succeed in professional theater. Through in-depth interviews with Broadway musicians, touring musicians, conductors, and contractors, it has become the go-to resource for anyone serious about making a career on Broadway.

After years of experiencing the ups and downs of a life in professional theater, Clayton made a deliberate decision to stop relying on the next gig and build something he owned outright — C.R.A.D. Global Ventures — Comprehensive Resources for Artistic Development — an umbrella firm built around ownership over participation. Under C.R.A.D. sits Cincopated Publishing, home to Broadway Bound and Beyond100 Top Tens, and the children's series John the Lion, alongside Signature Brandworks, a merchandise and branding platform for artists who want their brand to stand for something.
