Hsuan-Fong Chen
Oboe / English Horn
Oboist Hsuan-Fong Chen (pronounced “SHUan-fong”) is a musician whose career spans Broadway, orchestral performance, and new music. She holds the oboe and English horn chair for the Broadway revival of Ragtime at Lincoln Center, and previously performed as lead oboist in the hit Broadway production of Rocktopia. Her additional Broadway credits include substitute appearances in Wicked, The Phantom of the Opera, and Camelot at Lincoln Center.
Ms. Chen has performed with the New York Philharmonic, Metropolitan Opera, American Ballet Theatre Orchestra, Orchestra of St. Luke’s, The Knights, Novus NY, and the Albany Symphony Orchestra, and has toured the West Coast with the New York Philharmonic. She has also appeared at the Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music, Chelsea Music Festival, and Kingston Chamber Music Festival, and performs regularly with Talea Ensemble, Metropolis Ensemble, and Rocket City New Music. In 2023, she was the oboist for the world premiere of Watch Night, a theatrical work directed by Bill T. Jones.
As an educator, Ms. Chen serves on the faculty of the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College, CUNY, and previously taught at The Juilliard School’s Music Advancement Program and Pre-College Division. She is also Personnel Manager for Rocket City New Music.
A native of Taiwan, Ms. Chen holds degrees from The Juilliard School, Yale School of Music, and Manhattan School of Music.

Molly Goldman
Viola
Molly Goldman is a versatile violist based in New York City, known for her dynamic performances across a wide spectrum of musical genres. Her musicianship has brought her to iconic stages such as Carnegie Hall, Radio City Music Hall, Alice Tully Hall, and other notable venues. With a deep love of musical theater, she has performed in more than two dozen Broadway productions and currently plays in the orchestra for Ragtime at Lincoln Center Theater. Molly is the managing director and proud violist of The Broadway Strings, an ensemble that blends virtuosic classical performance with the glamour of musical theater. Most recently, the Broadway Strings went on a US tour with Broadway legend, Patti LuPone. A dedicated educator, she is a Suzuki violin and viola teacher at Silver Music in Manhattan. Molly holds an undergraduate degree in applied music and music education from the Eastman School of Music and a master’s degree in viola performance from The Juilliard School.
Laura Bontrager
Cello
Cellist Laura Bontrager came to New York City in 1986 to attend the Juilliard School, where she received her bachelor's and master's degrees, studying primarily with Joel Krosnick. Laura has appeared with a wide variety of orchestras and chamber music ensembles, in jazz and popular settings, on Broadway, and in sonata recitals. She has performed with Leonard Bernstein, Michael Tilson Thomas, Leonard Slatkin, Bernadette Peters, Joel Grey, and Elvis Costello, and has recorded on the RCA Victor and Sony Classical labels. Laura is a certified Suzuki Teacher and a faculty member at both the Diller-Quaile School and the Chapin School in Manhattan. She studies with Dorothea Figueroa and currently plays in the new Lincoln Center production of Ragtime.
